IDAA Participates in the 19th Session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee in Paris

The Independent Directors Association Africa (IDAA) proudly participated in the 19th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France, from 17–20 February 2026.

As a member of the International Federation of Coalitions for Cultural Diversity (IFCCD), IDAA joined global cultural organisations, coalitions, and policymakers in discussions addressing the protection and promotion of cultural diversity and the future of the global creative economy.

Representing IDAA at the session were Chairperson Andile Sinqoto and Council Member Yolisa Letshwene, who contributed to conversations ensuring that the perspectives of African filmmakers and creative communities remain part of international cultural policy dialogue.

The participation marked an important step not only for IDAA but also for the broader African creative sector, reinforcing the importance of African voices and leadership in shaping global cultural policy and strengthening the role of African creators within international decision-making spaces.

IDAA extends its sincere appreciation to the South African National Commission for UNESCO, the Department of Home Affairs, the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), and the Embassy of France in South Africa for their support in enabling this important participation.

Africa’s creative voice belongs at the global table — and it continues to grow stronger.
