IDAA Meets with the Secretary-General of the South African National Commission for UNESCO

Following its participation at the 19th Session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, the Independent Directors Association Africa (IDAA) held a strategic meeting with the Secretary-General of the South African National Commission for UNESCO, Mr Carlton Mukwevho.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reflect on IDAA’s participation at UNESCO and to discuss future collaboration between IDAA and the South African National Commission for UNESCO in advancing the interests of the African creative sector.

Discussions focused on strengthening partnerships that support cultural diversity, expanding opportunities for African filmmakers and creative practitioners, and ensuring that African perspectives continue to be represented in international cultural policy platforms.

IDAA Chairperson Andile Sinqoto emphasised the importance of continued engagement between industry bodies and institutions such as the South African National Commission for UNESCO to further support the development of Africa’s creative economy.

The meeting marked an important step toward building stronger collaboration and aligning efforts that promote the protection and promotion of cultural expressions across the continent.

IDAA looks forward to working closely with the South African National Commission for UNESCO in developing initiatives that support the growth and global recognition of African creative voices.
