Follow Up on Request for Input by the IDAA
Dear Mr Mayinje,
I hope this letter finds you well and in good health. The purpose of this letter relates to some of the issues discussed between the Independent Directors Association Africa and the National Film and Video Foundation, with the former having expressed dissatisfaction with the manner in which the latter fails to communicate.
Earlier this year, on the 24th of March 2023, a letter titled; “Final notice of outreach” was sent to the NFVF as a follow up on two past ignored letters and to date, almost 8 months later, there is still no response from the NFVF. Part of the last letter to the NFVF reads; “Our livelihoods as directors, writers and below-the-line crew is completely dependent on producers who, by and large, regulate, set and enforce industry practices mostly to their benefit, and which are often at our expense.” This line highlights the importance, sensitivity and urgency of the issues raised with you.
The ATM commends the good work carried out by the NFVF in South Africa as mandated by the Department of Arts and Culture. However, the issues raised by the IDAA, and the request for inputs from yourselves can no longer continue to be ignored by an important stakeholder such as the NFVF.
I am writing this letter to you, first to request an update on how far the agency is with regards to the issues raised by IDAA? Secondly, is the treatment demonstrated towards IDAA standard practice within the NFVF? and lastly, are you able to make a personal commitment, in your capacity as acting CEO that the matter will be attended to?
I hope to hear from you soon, and wish the agency could reconsider its attitude towards the IDAA.
